Women's marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich: provisionally suspended after a positive doping test.

Women's marathon world record-holder, Ruth Chepngetich, who shattered the women's marathon world record last year, has been provisionally suspended.. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) stated on Thursday that the Kenyan runner tested positive for hydrochlorothiazid (HCTZ), a masking agent that can be used to hide the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The suspension was announced on Thursday after the test result was reported to them on 3 April. Chepngetich had provided a urine sample on 14 March, which was found to contain the banned diuretic.

Chepngetich, who won the 2024 Chicago Marathon, improved the record by almost 2 minutes to 2hr 09min 56sec.
