The Three Forts Marathon, first run in 1977, is sometimes referred to as 'The Tough One'. It is a tough race with one more mile than the standard marathon distance with an overall climb of 3,450 foot. There is also a half marathon option.



Three Forts Marathon Route
The 'The Tough One' is a hilly, rugged race starting from Hill Barn and heading north to Cissbury Ring. Ruuners then head eastwards towards Coombs and then on towards Botolphs and the crossing at River Adur before moving on to Devil's Dyke and then back to the River Adur, and the inward half of the race.

The inward leg of the race carries on across the South Downs to Chanctonbury Ring. Next, runners are directed southwest towards Findon Park Farm. They then stays on public paths bridleways on to Cissbury Ring before returning to Hill Barn.
