The first Purbeck Marathon was run in 2012. It received much praise, being rated the 3rd best UK marathon by Runner's World in its inaugural year, and is now an annual feature.

Purbeck Marathon Route
The route is a single lap incorporating the Jurassic coastline and surrounding Dorset countryside.

Runners start and finish in Swanage. They follow a hilly course, passing through several nearby villages including the deserted village Tyneham. Also along the route they pass over the Purbeck Hills and pass by the 11th century Corfe Castle before eventually returning to Swanage.
