The Isle of Wight Marathon first took place in 1957, making it one of the longest running marathons in England.
Isle of Wight Marathon Route
The race is frequently described as 'undulating' and takes in both town and rural roads.
There are two loops, a large loop incorporating a smaller one 3-4 miles in from the start.
The race starts and ends in Ryde. Runners head out to Binstead, then onto Quarr Hill and Wootton. They then
loop back along Firestone Copse and Newnham Lane, back to Binstead and onto Wootton again. From here the
press on through Wootton Common, Staplers, Pan, Shide to Arreton, Lake, Sandown and Brading before finally arriving
back at Ryde. Marker boards mark each mile on the way round.
