The Monaco Marathon is known for being notoriously tough. It starts in Monte Carlo and passes through parts of both France and Italy
before returning to Monaco.
The Monaco Marathon was cancelled in 2010 to avoid a clash with local elections and has not been reinstated since.
Monaco Marathon Route
The race starting line is outside the IAAF's Headquarters in the Boulevard des Moulins. Then, after a quick lao around the Principality, runners
pass into Italy. The Italian leg of the marathon passes through the town of Ventimiglia on the way to the the half-way mark and border with France.
In France the race heads back towards Monaco. The French communities in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Menton, will cheer the runners as they steadily
get closer to Monte Carlo. When, eventually they reach the Principality, the will enter the the Stade Louis II in Fontvieille. Here they will see
the finish line and feel the glory of finishing Europe's only 3-country marathon.
