The Galway City Marathon is part of Festival Weekend, a festival of running that includes races such as the Galway City Mile and Galway City Half Marathon.
Galway City Marathon Route
Marathon participants run a two-loop course around the city to complete the required distance, while half-marathon competitors run one circuit of the course.
The Galway City Marathon route starts at Galway Harbour and heads out along the side of Lough Atalia. It then turns onto the old Dublin Road towards Bon Secours Hospital
and turns into Renmore, following the outskirts until reaching Ballybane Road. The route then continues on to the Monivea Road towards Moneenagheisa and through Bohermore,
into Eyre Square in the City centre.
The route then proceeds along Eglinton Street, taking runners over the Salmon Weir Bridge and running past the
Cathedral and University before joining the Seamus Quirke Road. At the crossroads with Threadneedle Road, it takes a right and navigates around the Galway Golf Course
by way of Knocknacarra Cross. It then joins the Salthill promenade at Blackrock and runs towards South Park and the Claddagh.
