The Marathon was first introduced to commemorate the feat of Greek soldier, Phidippides, who in 490 AD ran from Marathon to Athens to bring news of the victory
over the Persians at the Battle of Marathon. As a result the Athens Marathon is sometimes regarded as THE marathon. The Greeks take great pride in this race and organise
an excellent event invariably enjoyed by those taking part.
Athens Marathon Route
The Athens Marathon follows the 'Original Course' from the acient Greek city of Marathon to Athens Olympic Stadium. The first tweleve kilometre section is
flat. After that the next nineteen kilometres is is a little more demanding, with long and undualting and slowly climing hills. This climb then allows for
a final eleven kilmotres downhill towards the finish line. After 26 miles of effort, runners are greeted by the finish line in the Athens' magnificent Panathinaikon Olympic Stadium.

* Individual Entry : 80 Euro
* Team Entry : 70 Euro per runner
* Registration Deadline : 20 October
* Charity Places : Runners are advised to contact their chosen charity
* Other Information : Registration package includes free use of public trasport for 3 days prior to the race and 2 days after the event.
