The Thunder Road Marathon blends road racing with music, family-friendly entertainment and the Charlotte area's
rich heritage and love of stock car racing.
Thunder Road Marathon Route
The race starts in uptown Charlotte. Runners head off towards Randolph and Providence, passing through the
oak-lined Foxcroft community near Sharon Road and Arbor Way. Next the route turns back towards uptown.
This takes everyone through historic Myers Park, onto Queens Road via the revitalized Dilworth community
and past the Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL Carolina Panthers.
On towards the finish. The race now passes through the artistic North Davidson area, known for its music and night life.
Next, runners head uptown taking in sights of the historic Plaza-Midwood home of the first settlers in Charlotte.
Then on to Central Avenue and 7th Avenue before the final effort for closing stretch. Finally, along
McDowell and a last right turn on 2nd Street brings runners towards cheering crowds at the finish line and a Thunder Road Marathon medal.
