The Boston Marathon, organised by the Boston Athletics Association, is one of the Marathon 'Majors'. It is possibly the most difficult race for obtaining a place. Entry requirements are strict, with men under 60 needing to be able to complete the race in less than 4 hours, under 35 year olds needing a time sub 3 hrs 10 min.

Boston Marathon Route
The Boston Marathon is a point-to-point race starting at rural Hopkinton and ending at Boston. After starting, runners leave Hopkinton, heading through Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley. They then run through Newton Lower Falls along Commomwealth Avenue to Newton Hills, bearing right at the reservoir towards Cleveland Circle. Participant then turn left into Beacon Street. Runners are then led towards Commonwealth Avenue before turning right into Hereford Street then left into Boylston Street before the final stretch to the finish line at Copley Square.
