The Boston Marathon, organized by the Boston Athletics Association, is one of the Marathon 'Majors'. It is possibly the
most difficult race to enter. Entry requirements are strict, with men under 65 needing to be able to complete
the race in less than 3 hrs 50 mins. Men under 35 need to have achieved a time below 3 hrs 00 mins and similarly-aged women need
to have finished a marathon within 3 hrs 30 minutes.
Boston Marathon Route
The Boston Marathon is a point-to-point race starting in the rural town of Hopkinton and ending at Boston. After starting, runners leave Hopkinton, heading through
Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley. They then run through Newton Lower Falls along Commonwealth Avenue to Newton Hills, bearing right at the reservoir
towards Cleveland Circle. They then turn left into Beacon Street. The route then leads towards Commonwealth Avenue before turning right into
Hereford Street and left into Boylston Street before the final stretch to the finish line at Copley Square.
